At Buckland Road Baptist Church our worship is centred on Jesus and offered to God with joy and reverence. Each Sunday we sing a mix of modern worship songs and well-loved hymns. Some are energetic and celebratory; others are reflective and prayerful.
If you’ve never been to church before (or haven’t been for a while), please know: you’re welcome to join in as much or as little as you like.
Have a look at some of the songs below to get a sense of what we typically sing in a service. If you return to this page in the future, we’ll aim to keep it updated with any new songs that become part of our regular worship, as well as more of our favourite worship songs.
A testimony of God’s faithful love through every season, written by Ben Fielding, Brian Johnson, Ed Cash, Jason Ingram, and Jenn Johnson.
A sweeping gospel song from the cross to the resurrection and Christ’s return, written by Benjamin Hastings, Dean Ussher, and Marty Sampson.
A celebration of the God who rescues and brings new life, written by Phil Wickham.
You may know the words of the verses of this song as it has featured widely in hymnbooks set to at least eight different tunes since an edited version of Edwin Mote’s original text was published c. 1878. The version by Jonas Myrin, Reuben Morgan & Eric Liljero which features in the CCLI Top 100 is a representative of the ‘retuned hymns’ movement, in which older texts are given a new tune in the contemporary Christian music genre, and sometimes a chorus is added.
A warm confession of God’s faithful Father-heart and love, written by Anthony Brown and Pat Barrett.
A faith-filled reminder that Jesus has already secured the victory, written by Bryan Fowler and Shane Barnard.
An uplifting declaration of our identity as God’s children in Christ, written by Ben Fielding, Reuben Morgan, and Ran Jackson.
A powerful song marvelling at God’s relentless, pursuing love, written by Cory Asbury, Caleb Culver, and Ran Jackson.
Taking inspiration from Psalm 103 vv. 1 & 8, co-author Matt Redman says of the song, ‘it’s all about the voices’ and notes it works well with a simple accompaniment on piano or guitar. Written by Matt Redman & Jonas Myrin
‘This is amazing grace’ began as an unpublished demo song by Josh Farro and Phil Wickham. Some years later, co-author Jeremy Riddle rewrote the verses and popularised it through use at Bethel Church in Redding, California.
“Another in the Fire” (which we sang at BRBC on Ash Wednesday) began with a phrase that co-writer Chris Davenport says came to him one Sunday back in 2009, inspired by the Old Testament image of a fourth figure present in the flames. Years later, Davenport and Hillsong UNITED’s Joel Houston shaped that spark into the song we know today and it’s since become a widely sung anthem of God’s presence in the middle of suffering.
"Counting Every Blessing" is a contemporary worship song by
the Northern Irish Christian folk-rock band the Rend Collective. Released in 2018 on their album Good News, the song is known for its themes of gratitude and trust in God's goodness, focusing on counting blessings during challenging seasons.
Like "Counting Every Blessing", "My Lighthouse" was written by members of the Christian worship band Rend Collective, specifically credited to Gareth Gilkeson and Chris Llewellyn. This popular worship song was released on their 2014 album The Art of Celebration and is known for its upbeat, folk-influenced sound.
"Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" is a contemporary worship song released in 2006 by Christian artist Chris Tomlin, featuring additional lyrics and a new chorus written by him and Louis Giglio. It is a modern adaptation of the traditional 1772 hymn "Amazing Grace" written by John Newton.
"One Way" is a popular kids' worship song by Hillsong United released in 2004 which was written by Joel Houston and Jonathon Douglass. The song appeared on the For All You've Done album and became a well-known anthem for the group, known for its focus on devotion to Jesus as the sole source of life and truth.
"Father, I place into your hands" is a well-known Christian hymn and children's action song written by Jenny Hewer. She wrote both the words and the music for this hymn, which was first published in 1975 by Kingsway's Thank You Music in England.
